Basic Instinct 2

Watched this flick last nite. Mostly just to see where in the hell they'd take the story line. And boy, was I disappointed. There's like /no/ continuity w/ the first one. OK, not entirely. They do make a reference or two to her being in SF previously and they mention 'shooter', but there's no word on what happened w/ her and shooter and where he is (alive? dead?) and why she's now in London. I seriously got the impression that they wouldn't have alluded to the first film at all if they could have gotten away with it. This film was... odd. There was nowhere near as much gratuitous sex as the first one, and they were clearly trying to focus more on the convoluted 'who did it?' storyline (a good thing, imho) but the storyline was /so/ convoluted it was hard to follow. The first movie basically told you who the killer was and then at the very last scene made you wonder 'was it really her?'. This movie went so far out of its way to make you wonder that throughout the whole film you're like 'just effing tell me already!'. Seriously. The visit between her and the shrink at the end where she completely rewrites the whole movie is a terrific 'screw with your mind' twist, but at that point, my mind was so tired of being screwed with that I it just annoyed..
And what's w/ Sharon Stone anyway? She's certainly not aging very well.
